A historic national nature reserve of reedbeds, wet woodland, meres and meadows at the heart of the Great Fen.
Woodwalton Fen is one of the surviving fragments of fenland habitat that make the Great Fen project possible. Its mixture of reeds, meres, wet grassland and woodland supports wildlife through changing seasons and water conditions. A quiet walk can reveal the fine detail of a landscape that at first appears flat: shifting light, bird calls, vegetation and the movement of water. The reserve offers both a glimpse of older fen ecosystems and a reason for the broader effort to reconnect habitats across this part of Cambridgeshire.
