An 1833 beam engine and drainage museum explaining how steam power transformed the South Holland Fens.

The beam engine was built to pump water from the surrounding low-lying land, placing it at the centre of the Fens’ nineteenth-century drainage story. Its surviving machinery shows the scale of effort required before modern pumps took over. Seeing an engine in its historic setting makes the relationship between watercourses, farmland and engineering far easier to understand. This is a small specialist site with a large regional story, best approached with an interest in industrial history and with its current opening arrangements checked in advance.
