Discover this place

Designed by local architect Henry Bell and completed in 1683, the Custom House is an enduring symbol of King’s Lynn’s maritime prosperity. Its riverside setting makes it a natural stopping point on a walk through the historic port quarter.

The Custom House stands near the waterfront as a reminder of the duties, goods and overseas connections that once passed through this port. Henry Bell’s late-seventeenth-century design has become one of Lynn’s most recognisable buildings. Even viewed from outside, it anchors a walk along the quays and helps visitors imagine the busy trading world of the River Great Ouse. Pair it with the surrounding Hanseatic Quarter for a fuller picture of the town’s international history.
