Greyfriars Tower King's Lynn

Discover this place

Greyfriars Tower is one of only three surviving Franciscan monastery towers in England. Preserved after the Dissolution because it served as a useful seamark, the graceful leaning tower remains a distinctive feature of King’s Lynn’s skyline.

The tower survives from a Franciscan friary otherwise largely lost from the modern townscape. Its height makes it a visible reminder of the religious communities once established in prosperous medieval Lynn. A short stop can open up questions about the Dissolution and the many layers of buildings that have since surrounded the site. Combine it with the nearby streets, minster and Red Mount Chapel to see how different forms of religious life left traces across the town.
