Castle Acre Priory
Wander through the extensive ruins of one of England’s best-preserved Cluniac priories.

Discover this place
Founded soon after the Norman Conquest, Castle Acre Priory preserves an exceptional monastic landscape. Visitors can explore the richly decorated west front, cloister, church, domestic buildings and exhibition telling the story of the Cluniac community.
The priory ruins preserve the scale of a major medieval religious house, from its church and cloister to the spaces where its community lived and worked. Walking between these remains helps explain monastic life more clearly than a single standing wall could. Castle Acre’s wider medieval setting, including the nearby village and castle, makes the priory part of a larger historical landscape. Allow enough time to move through the site and look back at the buildings as a connected whole.
