The UK’s only museum devoted to stained glass, displaying windows and panels from the medieval period to the present inside Ely Cathedral.

Set inside Ely Cathedral, the museum follows the craft, colour and storytelling of stained glass over many centuries. Works from different periods reveal changing artistic techniques and the ways glass has been used in religious, public and domestic settings. Seeing the collection within a cathedral adds a useful connection between the objects and the architecture they were often designed to illuminate. Look closely at the detail of painted figures and the effect of light passing through the glass; the museum gives a new way to appreciate windows elsewhere in the Fens.
