A preserved nineteenth-century blacksmith’s workshop beside the River Welland, interpreting generations of local craft and industry.

The forge preserves a working space where the sounds, tools and skills of blacksmithing were once part of everyday life beside the River Welland. Its riverside location connects the craft to Spalding’s transport and trading history. Demonstrations and interpretation can bring the processes behind apparently simple metal objects into focus, from heat and hammering to repair and reuse. This compact site is a rewarding stop on a walk through the town, especially for anyone interested in the people and trades behind its historic buildings and waterways.
