A former clay pit transformed into a mosaic of reedbeds, open water, grassland and woodland rich in fenland wildlife.
The reserve’s varied habitats have developed on land once worked for clay. Open water and reedbed meet grassland and scrub, creating different places for birds, insects and plants within a compact site. Paths make it possible to notice how an industrial landscape has become a refuge for wildlife. Each season reveals something different, from fresh growth and birdsong to the quieter structure of reeds and trees in winter. It is a good example of nature recovering within the wider fenland landscape.
