Restored fenland of wet grassland, reedbed, ponds and grazing marsh managed for wildlife in the heart of South Holland.
Former arable fields have been restored to shallow meres, reedbeds, wet pasture and hay meadow, creating a richer habitat mosaic in the Lincolnshire Fens. The reserve is especially known for its wetland birds, and cranes have bred here following their return to the area. Its story is one of active recovery rather than untouched wilderness: water and land management continue to shape what visitors can see. Check the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust’s access guidance before visiting, as the viewing area and parking arrangements can change.
